The Mint of Poland is
proud to present a unique coin featuring “John Paul
II” through a 3D achromatic hologram.
This is the first time in the world that achromatic hologram has been
used in coin production. The colorless hologram, at various shades of
grey, features a three-dimensional image of the Pope’s face,
which in reality is flat. The optical illusion is due to the use of
nanotechnology, a range of techniques and methods to create all sorts
of structures of nanometric dimensions, i.e. from 0.1 to 100 nanometers.
As in the case of other coins manufactured by the Mint of Poland the
hologram is an integral one, i.e. made directly in the coin’s
material, as opposed to commonly used label type holograms placed upon
various products.
The 3D hologram has been produced using technology provided by Optaglio.
The coin has been issued by the Principality of Andorra to commemorate
the 32nd anniversary of John Paul II’s pontificate. The
mintage offered by the Mint of Poland is up to 15,000 pieces, on silver
Ag 925 blanks.
